Run of Bank

Run of Bank Crushed
Screened Top Soil

Earth containing clay, rocks, sand, dirt, twigs, etc. Fill is used for depressions in lawns or any area needing to be raised; the fill must be covered with 3-6" of topsoil for lawns or 4-6" of bank run for driveways. An inexpensive alternative to ROB.
Fill
The "run of the bank" is dug out of the ground at the sand and gravel processing site. Rocks, dirt, silt and sand etc. may be present. Fine, medium or coarse Bank Run is selected to suit its use as a driveway sub base, base for roads, under slabs, select fill, trench and septic backfill. Another name used for this item is "gravel", usually white or gray in color.
A NYS DOT Specified material. Bank Run Gravel Item 4 meets NYS Spec Items 304.02, 304.04 and 304.05. It is used for road base and driveways. It consists of Crushed Bank Run, which contains sand, dirt and up to 2" stone. This Item 4 is brown, not white or gray. Used on primary roads or longer driveways, to attain a durable compressed roadway base. Recommended to be put down when dry weather is forecasted until surface can be compacted.
Our clay is the finest portion of the silt washed from the gravel in processing. It is very impervious, usually used for the perimeter of septic pads and must be approved by the local BOH (Board of Health). It blocks water from exiting the surround of a septic pad, a pond, lake or dam.
Clay
The sandy washings from sand and gravel that is processed through the plant. The wash water goes into a large settling pond. The heaviest, coarsest particles settle out first; this is the Dead Sand or Silt portion. The finer, lighter particles float farther away from the pipe before settling out. These very fine particular are our Clay. Ball fields might use silt which is sandier than clay.
Silt
Soil, some sticks, some stone, not screened. Used for lawns and gardens.
